Introduction

The Cyrillic script is a writing system which was developed during the late 9th century in the Preslav Literary School of the First Bulgarian Empire by the disciples of Cyril and Methodius - creators of the Glagolitic script. It was historically used for writing Old Church Slavonic and still remains in use for writing Church Slavonic. Additionally, variations of the Cyrillic script are currently used by around 250 million people in Eurasia as the official scripts for their national languages.
